   Essential to strategic planning is a well thought-out vision statement for the future, mission statement, and organizational values that define the desired culture. If your organization does not have these, strategic plans are missing its foundation.    1. Collect data needed for the environmental scan and SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Theats) assessment.
